Butylated Hydroxytoluene is a lab-made chemical that is added to foods as a preservative. People also use it as medicine. This is used to treat genital herpes and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. This acts as food grade antioxidant which is offered to prevent rancidity. This exists as a solid and is considered to be practically insoluble and relatively neutral. Butylated Hydroxytoluene can stabilise a variety of organic materials against deterioration due to oxidation and is particularly useful in preventing fats and fat containing foods from becoming rancid.
